A DRAFT COVENANT FOR THE CLERGY CAUCUS
OF THE NORTHEAST OHIO ALLIANCE FOR HOPE
For Approval 1/20/05

We, the members of the Clergy Caucus of the Northeast Ohio Alliance for Hope,
bind ourselves in covenant with one another. Inspired by our theological statement, conscious of our self-interest, and committed to our relationships with one another, we join together in affirming these promises:
  1. To attend monthly meetings of our Clergy Caucus as a spiritual discipline whenever possible.
  2. To bring to the meetings not only our "presence" but to bring as well the "presents" that represents gifts of the spirit which are part of our diverse traditions.
  3. To meet one another with the utmost mutual respect for the integrity and value of our diverse religious traditions, using language that is inclusive of our moral values and theological diversity.
  4. To be honest with each other, believing that honesty builds trust.
  5. To engage with each other with an attitude of mutual learning, and willingness to go deeper in our learning about the gifts represented by our diverse traditions.
  6. To be committed to personal relationship-building with one another through the disciplined practice of one-on-one interviews.
  7. To be patient with our process and our goals, recognizing that the work of justice-making is not short-term work.
  8. To be direct with one another when in conflict, recognizing that some conflict is inevitable in any complex undertaking.
  9. To pray for one another and for our NOAH congregations.
  10. To be willing to invite other pastors into this covenant, and into NOAH.
  11. To be accountable to each other for our relationships, for our NOAH commitments, and for our congregation's financial support for NOAH.
  12. To do our best to move our congregations towards the goal of full membership in NOAH, including voted congregational support and a full suggested share of 1% of the congregational budget minus benevolences as a dues payment.
