Background & Training

Background

The Northeast Ohio Alliance for Hope (NOAH) is a broad-based community organization initiative established in 2002. The primary focus of NOAH is to unite groups throughout the community (churches, neighborhoods groups, parent/teacher associations, etc.) to work together to increase the quality of life in urban neighborhoods with-in the Northeast Region of Ohio. NOAH seeks to begin the process of change through neighborhood actions and campaigns.

NOAH’s philosophy is based on the simple premise that change happens from the bottom up and that residents themselves hold the solution to the problems that face their communities. NOAH’s organizing approach involves training and developing local leadership, identifying common issues, creating collective and strategic ways to address those issues and systematically strengthening the institutions within the Northeast Ohio Region. NOAH is also connected to state and national organizing initiatives for the purpose of changing state and federal policies regarding urban development and equity.

Th NOAH membership includes a number of church congregations throughout greater Cleveland as well as residents of East Cleveland. They believe that a NOAH presence in East Cleveland would significantly help the community. Currently NOAH has concentrated its efforts to the community of East Cleveland. The decision was made by the members of NOAH due to the needs of the community and their desire to be a vessel of change. To date, NOAH has been conducting an extensive listening campaign in the city of East Cleveland to build relationships with community leaders, identify potential leaders and organize a series of community conventions.

Training

Training, both local and statewide, provide leaders the knowledge, skills, and confidence to win these huge successes in the public arena. NOAH holds three two day trainings locally each year teaching the concepts of power, self-interest, how to conduct relational meetings, elements of a broad based organization, and other key organizing concepts. In addition, NOAH regularly holds trainings at its planning meetings on public speaking, community outreach, strategic thinking/power analysis, and others.
